Fair, Inclusive, and Anti-Racist Economies to Leave No One Behind

The planet is getting hotter, and this is happening faster. In a context of increasing tension and polycrisis, with accelerated biodiversity loss, climate emergency, economic disruptions, and conflicts, it is more urgent than ever to accelerate the implementation of key agreements such as the 2030 Agenda, the Addis Ababa Action Plan on Financing for Development, and most climate agreements.

The G20 is a strategic international economic cooperation forum and plays an important role in defining and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. This event will discuss a set of proposals under construction within the G20 to address the global challenges before us, especially considering that in 2024, the priorities established by the Brazilian presidency – combating hunger, poverty, and inequality; promoting sustainable development and global governance reform – are essential parts of the reflections leading to the Summit of the Future, the IV Conference on Financing for Development, and the Global Tax Convention.

This side event will be an opportunity to reinforce trust among a broad range of stakeholders and emphasize the need for the international community to act together to effectively address current challenges and explore opportunities for greater collaboration. This will be a dynamic and vibrant session focused on future solutions, considering that the costs of inaction – to health, economic productivity, and public budgets – far outweigh the costs of the investments necessary to guarantee the rights of people and the planet.
The session’s objective is to discuss the G20’s contributions, under the Brazilian presidency, to accelerate progress towards eradicating hunger and poverty, promoting sustainable development, and combating climate change through solutions related to debt relief and reforms of international financial institutions (IFIs), multilateral development banks, and the global tax architecture. These solutions aim to support anti-racist and gender-responsive fiscal and financial policies capable of transforming the world.
